The New York University men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to Drew University on Saturday September 7, in a match hosted by Rutgers-Newark University in Newark, NJ.
The Violets took an early lead thanks to a goal off the boot of sophomore Oliver Kleban (Denver, CO/Blind Brook) in the 16th minute. His goal was assisted by junior Jake Velvel (Washington, D.C./Georgetown Day School).
Drew knotted the game, 1-1, in the 65th minute when Kyle Bethel scored off assists from Kuki Armenteros and Nick Caicedo. The Rangers then secured the win in the 70th minute as Aiden Cserhat's penalty kick found the back of the net.
The Rangers are now 2-1 this season, while the Violets fall to 0-3.
The Violets had the edge statistically in the first half, taking five shots to only three for the Rangers. NYU took seven corner kicks over the game's first 45 minutes, while the Rangers only had two.
"When teams are experiencing tough losses its important to continue to stick together and identify the areas where we can improve to move forward," said Head Coach Kim Wyant.
The Violets are back in action on Sunday, September 8, when they face host Rutgers-Newark at 2:30pm.
