The New York University men's volleyball team lost to Vassar College in a United Volleyball Conference (UVC) match-up on Wednesday, April 3, in Poughkeepsie, NY.
The Violets (12-9, 6-3) fell in five sets to the Brewers (13-12, 5-4) by scores of 25-21, 23-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-12.
In the first set, neither team led by more than two before Vassar snapped a 15-15 tied with four consecutive points to take the lead for good.
NYU rebounded to take the next two sets by identical scores.
In the second, the Violets trailed 23-21, but rallied to score the final four points. In the third set, NYU trailed by as many as eight points before making its comeback.
Vassar snapped an early tie in the fourth set, once again gaining an eight-point advantage, but this time not letting the lead get away.
Then, in the deciding fifth set, the Brewers led from start-to-finish, snapping the Violets' three-match winning streak..
Alex Li led NYU with a season-high 23 kills.
Evan Lindley (14) and
James Haag (10) also totaled double-digits.
Matin Bikdeli's 48 assists were a team best, as was his 10 digs.
Neil Ferraro chipped in with nine kills and a team-high four blocks.
"Another hard-fought match against Vassar. They've had our number of late," said Head Coach
Jose Pina. "Now we just have to get ready for Saturday and then the UVC playoffs."
The Violets return to action this Saturday, April 6, when they face Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, PA. First serve is set for 2:00pm.
