Three New York University student-athletes were named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week, it was announced on Monday, April 29.
Two baseball players,
Colman Hendershot and
Ford Ladd, were honored along with
Jessica Wu of the Violets' women's golf team.
Hendershot and Ladd played a large role in the Violets going 4-1 last week, including taking three of four from UAA-rival Emory University over the weekend.
Hendershot hit .368 (7-for-22) with a home run and seven RBIs while starting all five games at first base. The senior hit safely in all five games and had a pair of multi-hit games in this weekend's series victory over Emory.
Ladd was magnificent in two starts last week, not allowing an earned run in 13 innings of work while winning both of his starts against Rutgers-Newark and Emory to improve to 8-2 on the mound this season. The junior tossed eight innings against Emory and gave up an unearned run in the first inning, before settling down and not allowing another Eagle to reach second base. Additionally, the southpaw retired 11 batters in a row at two different points of the game against Emory. Ladd struck out four, gave up two hits and walked one in each of his two starts this week for the 23-11 Violets.
Wu was the top NYU performer at the Jack Leaman Invitational, which was hosted by Amherst College this weekend. The sophomore helped lead the Violets to a third-place finish, shooting a two-round score of 155 (80-75) to finish 11th among 55 golfers.
