The New York University men's tennis team was defeated by Emory University 5-0 in the first round of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Friday, April 26, in Altamonte Springs, FL.
In doubles play, the Violets dropped all three matches.
Zeb Zheng and
Rahul Das fell 8-4 in the #1 match, and
Vishal Walia and
Shrikar Kundur played a tight match in #3 doubles, but ultimately fell 8-6.
In singles play,
Stefan Rodic fell in the #2 match 6-0, 6-2, and
Lucas Biondi fell 6-0, 6-0 in the #3 match. The other four singles matches were left unfinished.
"Emory showed why the are the #3 team in the country," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "We had some competitive matches, but they gave us nothing and came up with big shots when needed. We had good intensity in the match, but came up short. I expect the same fight and energy tomorrow from our guys."
The Violets will continue play at the UAA Championship tomorrow, April 27, when they face Carnegie Mellon University at 12:30pm.
