The New York University women's tennis team followed up yesterday's season opening-win with another victory as they beat Christopher Newport University 9-0 on Sunday, February 24, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx.
The Violets are now 2-0 on the season, while the Captains fell to 1-3.
In doubles play, the Violets came out strong and set the tone with three victories.
Coco Kulle and
Fleura Shiyanova won the #1 match 8-5,
Anna Maria Buraya and
Judy Kam won the #2 match 8-5, and
Rupa Ganesh and
Kate Shaffer won the #3 match 8-5.
NYU carried the momentum from doubles play into singles, sweeping Christopher Newport with six decisive, straight-set victories.
"The women played extremely well against a quality opponent," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "Sweeping the doubles was important and they were able to carry that strong play into singles. Anna and Fleura got off to strong starts, as did Judy, and they all cruised. There was strong play up and down the line-up and I'm happy with the result."
The Violets return to action next Sunday, March 3, when they face Swarthmore College at the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis in the Bronx at 1 PM.
