The New York University women's tennis team kicked off singles play on day two of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championship on Friday, October 2, in Saratoga, NY.

The Violets' doubles and singles players faced various colleges on the second day of the no-team-scoring competition.

In the Round of 16 of doubles play, the pair of Victoria Wang and Vera Bondarenko fell 8-2 to Skidmore College's Nandini Chandra and Ginevra Muratori.

The Violets dominated in singles play, with four of the six singles players triumphing in all of their matches.

Bondarenko sailed to a 6-0, 6-3 win against Grace Qian from Hamilton College before winning 6-1, 6-2 against The College of New Jersey (TCNJ)'s Shruti Mannan again in straight sets.

Likewise, Emma Kast rolled to two victories, first defeating host Skidmore's Collete Prokop 6-1, 6-2, then claiming a swift 6-0, 6-2 win against Esme Nix from Vassar College.

Noelle Faber also earned two commanding wins against Hobart & William Smith College's Grace Magna (6-2, 6-1) and Ava Boncordo from Union College (7-5, 6-3).

NYU's Ashley Petrauskas battled Skidmore in a tight tiebreak before dropping a 7-5, 6-3 decision. Katelyn Ho started strong against Pratt Institute, winning the first set 6-3, but ultimately falling in the match.

"We had a really strong singles day with four players advancing to the Round of 16." said Head Coach Dillon Pottish. "Looking forward to seeing them battle tomorrow."

Violet singles players Bondarenko, Kast, Faber, and Wang will return in action for day three of the tournament at 9:00am tomorrow.
