The New York University men's swimming & diving team, ranked #7 in the nation by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), lost to #3 Johns Hopkins University by a score of 141-121 on Saturday, November 23, at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.
The Violets won five individual events, including sophomore
Graham Chatoor (Glencoe, Trinidad/International School of Port Spain) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:34.61), junior
Josh Rine (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) in the 100-yard backstroke (52.34) and sophomore
Justin Lum (Ventura, CA/Ventura) in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.43).
Other winners were freshman
Thomas Pritchard (Durham, NC /Northern Durham ) in the 500-yard freestyle (4:38.05) and junior
Elan Oumarov (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Technical) in the 100-yard butterfly (50.55).
NYU also placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing in a time of 3:07.72.
"I was pretty happy with how we swam. Obviously it stinks that we lost, but just phenomenal swimming," Head Coach
Trevor Miele said. "I thought the guys really rose to the occasion. They posted some great mid-season times."
The meet was swimmers-only, with divers spending the day at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Memorial Invitational in Kings Point, NY.
Next up for the Violets is the Bomber Invitational, which will be hosted by Ithaca College from Friday, December 6, to Sunday, December 8, in Ithaca, NY.
