The New York University men's swimming & diving team, ranked #9 in the nation in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Poll, defeated #19 Williams College and lost to host #5 Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Friday, January 18, in Cambridge, MA.
The Violets (4-2), defeated the Ephs 155-139, but lost to MIT 207-93.
"Today's meet against two of the top teams in the nation provided us with great competition," said Head Coach
Trevor Miele. "This was great preparation for UAA and NCAA Championships ahead."
The Violets won two events on Friday.
Graham Chatoor captured the 1,650-yard freestyle in a time of 15:55.72. He also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:40.58).
NYU's other winner was
Justin Lum, who finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:06.54.
Keven Shang also produced a second-place finish for the Violets, posting a time of 58.83 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
On the diving boards,
Cole Vertin finished third in both the three-meter and one-meter events, totaling scores of 294.45 and 286, respectively.
"I thought the team raced really well today," Miele continued. "I was happy with the performance."
The Violets are back in action on Friday, February 8, to host the NYU Invitational at the Palladium Athletic Facility Natatorium.
