The New York University men's basketball team lost to Carnegie Mellon University 81-67 in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Sunday, January 13, in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Tartans (8-6, 3-0) scored the next six points and extended their lead to nine points midway through the opening half. The Violets, however, were able to creep within four points before settling for a 34-28 halftime deficit.
Dom Cristiano's basket opened the second half to bring NYU within four. But, Carnegie Mellon scored the next five points en route an 18-5 streak which gave the home team a comfortable 14-point lead, 49-35.
Cristiano's layup brought the Violets to within eight, 55-47, with 10:33 remaining in the game, but NYU never got any closer.
Cristiano finished with a team-high 21 points while also contributing eight rebounds, a block and a steal.
