Men's Basketball Dropped by WashU

Violets Return to Action Sunday vs. Chicago

The New York University men's basketball team suffered a 91-70 setback from Washington University in St. Louis in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Friday, January 18, at the Sportsplex in Manhattan.

Friday's contest was back-and-forth early until a 13-0 WashU (9-6, 2-2 UAA) run turned a 17-15 NYU (6-9, 0-4 UAA) lead into an 11-point advantage for the visitors.

The Bears increased their lead to 15, 44-29, at halftime and led by as many as 26 late in the second half before ultimately winning the game by the 21-point margin.

Four WashU players scored in double figures including Hank Hunter who poured in a game-high 22 points on 11-of-14 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds to complete the double-double.

NYU was led by Bobby Hawkinson, who recorded a double-double of his own, scoring 15 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.

Also scoring in double figures for the Violets were Jule Brown (14 points) and Dom Cristiano (10 points).

NYU returns to action on Sunday, January 20, when it hosts the University of Chicago. Tip-off against the Maroons is scheduled for 12pm at the Sportsplex in Manhattan.
