The New York University men's tennis team, playing in its first University Athletic Association (UAA) match of the season, fell to Brandeis University in a 7-2 loss on Saturday, April 7, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx.
It was a busy day at the home court, as both the men and women's teams from NYU and Brandeis were playing matches at the same time. The NYU men had the added bonus of celebrating its Family/Alumni/Senior Day, serving as a good morale boost despite the loss.
NYU (2-4) got off to a strong start against Brandeis (9-2) with
Benedict Teoh and
Michael Li winning the first match of the day in #2 doubles (8-5).
Umberto Setter had the only other win for the Violets, giving a dominant performance in #1 singles (6-3, 6-1). He also gained special recognition for winning on Senior day. Li had an impressive #3 singles match as well, mounting a comeback in the second set only to come up short in the third (6-3, 4-6, 6-4).
"The men played a tough match, but just came up a bit short," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "Several of the matches were well closely-contested and could have gone either way."
The Violets have a quick turnaround as they head to Ewing, NJ, to face The College of New Jersey on Sunday, April 8, at 4:00 pm.
