The New York University men's tennis team came back from their earlier loss today to narrowly defeat Ohio Wesleyan University 5-4 on Saturday, April 21, in Cleveland, OH.
After losing 7-2 to Case Western Reserve University in their first match of the day, the Violets (5-7), refusing to return home empty-handed, rebounded with a strong performance. The Bishops (15-9) were also looking for their first win today as they too were beaten by Case Western.
The Violets got a crucial doubles victory from
Shrikar Kundur and
Michael Li (#2), as the won their match 8-4.
In singles,
Umberto Setter (#1) and
Vishal Walia (#3) each had their second singles wins of the day after prevailing 6-4, 6-3, and 6-1, 6-2, respectively. Sealing the fourth and fifth victories for the Violets were
Yanik Parsch (#5), who won a close first set 6-4 and dominant second 6-1, and
Zeb Zheng (#6) who made quick work of his opponent in a decisive 6-1, 6-2 win.
"This win allows us to head into our conference tournament on a positive note," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "The University Athletic Association (UAA) is the strongest tennis conference in the country so it will be a challenge."
This was the Violets' last match before they head down to Altamonte Springs, FL, for day one of the UAA Championship on Thursday, April 26, at 9:00 am.
