Following a 20-day hiatus, the New York University men's tennis team was swept by host Johns Hopkins University, 9-0, on Saturday, March 24, in Baltimore, MD.
The Violets now sit at 2-3 on the season while Johns Hopkins improved to 4-1 following its third win in a row.
Despite the sweep, the Violets still played very hard as
Michael Li (#3 singles) and
Vishal Walia (#5 singles) both took their opponents to incredibly narrow tiebreakers in their second sets, but both ultimately came up short. In #1 doubles,
Umberto Setter and
Zeb Zheng competed hard against their opponents as well, but in the end came up short.
"Johns Hopkins is a good team and played like the higher ranked team today," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "I think the matches were closer than scores indicated, but they came up with the points when they needed them."
NYU will once again try for its third win of the season on Family/Alumni/Senior Day on Saturday, April 7, when it hosts University Athletic Association (UAA) foe Brandeis University, in The Bronx.
