Women's Basketball Falls in Chicago

Violets Defeated by Maroons 83-59

The New York University women's basketball team was defeated by the University of Chicago 83-59 in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Friday, January 12, in the very Windy City.

The Violets (8-5, 1-1 UAA) scored the first 10 points of the game and led 24-21 after the first quarter. Kayla Patterson, who scored a team-high 16 points, contributed 10 points over the first 10 minutes. 

The Maroons (11-2, 2-0 UAA), ranked #23 in the nation by the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association), took their first lead of the contest, 27-26, on a three-pointer by Miranda Burt with 8:28 left in the second quarter. Chicago was able to increase its lead to 41-34 at halftime.

Chicago continued to dominate in the second half, increasing its lead to 22 points, 65-43, after three quarters. 

NYU fell behind by as many as 28 points in the final quarter, never getting closer than 19 the rest of the way.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Violets, while the Maroons have now won nine straight.

INSIDE INFO:

- Olivia Linebarger scored a season-high 12 points for NYU, connecting on 5-of-10 shots while also collecting seven rebounds. 

- Patterson also led the team with 11 rebounds, completing her fifth double-double in NYU's last six games. She also had three blocks, two assists and two steals.

- The Violets' leading scorer, Kaitlyn Read, was held to three points, but contributed six rebounds, a team-high five assists, a block and a steal. 

- Mia Farrell led four Maroons in double figures with 19 points.

The Violets' Midwest trip continues when they face Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday, January 14, at 2:00pm (central time) in the Show-Me State.
