Softball Drops Two One-Run Games at Farmingdale

Violets Conclude Eight-Game Road Stretch

The New York University softball team wrapped up an eight-game road trip with a pair of games at Farmingdale State College on Wednesday, April 19, in Farmingdale, NY. NYU dropped each game by one run, first falling 1-0 and then 7-6 in eight innings.

Farmingdale State (16-14) won both games in walk-off fashion, scoring in the home half of the final inning of each contest.

NYU (17-13) starting pitcher Karissa Zubulake went the distance in the circle in game one, striking out seven Rams before letting up the game's only run in the bottom of the seventh. The Violets were able to tag Farmingdale State starter Jaxie Collard for eight hits, but were unable to score any of those baserunners.

With the score knotted at 0-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Zubulake got the leadoff hitter to pop out before giving up a single followed by an RBI double.

Game two featured much more offense as the squads combined for 13 runs in the eight-inning contest. The Violets entered the sixth inning trailing 5-1, but were able to tie the game on RBI singles from Sage Scheiwiller and Ashley Mains followed by a two-RBI triple off the bat of Rachel Fulton

NYU took a 6-5 lead in the top of the eighth inning when Allyson Schmus singled up the middle to score Scheiwiller, but the Violets were unable to hold on as they surrendered a pair of runs in the home half of the inning.

The Violets will look to get back in the win column on Friday when they continue the University Athletic Association (UAA) portion of their schedule against Emory University. Game one of the doubleheader at Bahoshy Field in the Bronx is slated to begin at 4pm.
