The New York University softball team dropped both ends of a University Athletic Association (UAA) doubleheader to visiting Emory University on Friday, April 21, at Bahoshy Field in the Bronx.
Emory (25-13, 8-6 UAA) won game one 13-1 in five innings, before taking the nitecap 2-1.
NYU (17-15, 4-6 UAA) was unable to solve Emory pitcher Brittany File in either game. The senior hurler struck out 11 Violets in each game and only allowed five combined hits, including just one in the opening contest.
In game one, the Eagles scored seven runs in the top of the first and controlled the contest throughout en route to the 13-1 victory.
Claire Stefanelli recorded NYU's only hit in the five-inning contest.
Game two was much closer as neither team was able to get its offense to click. After Emory opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the second inning, the Violets responded with a run of their own in the fourth to cut the deficit in half. NYU was unable to get a second run to tie the game, as a pair of its baserunners were thrown out at home plate.
Ashley Mains led the Violets' offense, recording a pair of hits, including a RBI double.
Cassi Parilus had an impressive outing in the circle in defeat. The sophomore allowed just four hits in seven innings while striking out a pair of Eagles and walking just one.
The Violets and Eagles will return to Bahoshy Field for another doubleheader tomorrow evening. Game one is slated to begin at 6:00pm.
