The New York University men's basketball team was defeated by host Carnegie Mellon University 94-58 its final road game of the 2016-17 season on Sunday, February 12, at the Skibo Gymnasium in Pittsburgh, PA.
Carnegie Mellon (13-9, 7-4 UAA) led wire-to-wire as it scored the first 10 points of the game and never looked back. The Tartans shot 57.6 % in the contest, while NYU (7-15, 2-9 UAA) shot just 31.3 %.
Doug Gertner answered the Tartans' quick start with a three-pointer to make the score 10-3, but Carnegie Mellon responded with 12 straight points to go ahead by 19 just over seven minutes into the game.
A three-pointer from
Ross Udine put the Violets within 18 late in the opening half, but the Tartans scored the final seven points of the frame and took a 47-22 lead into halftime.
The second half was also all Carnegie Mellon as the hosts built their lead to as many as 42 before winning by the 36-point margin.
Jack Serbin led all players with 19 points and 13 rebounds. The Carnegie Mellon senior was one of four Tartans to score in double figures.
For NYU,
Joe Timmes and
Jack Heller each scored 12 points to the lead the squad.
NOTABLES:
- All of Timmes' and Heller's points came from beyond the arc. The Violets hit 13 three-pointers in the contest.
- Udine scored nine points and dished out nine assists for NYU.

Jordan Harris pulled down six rebounds (four offensive) from his guard position.
The Violets return to action on Friday, February 17, when they host Washington University in St. Louis. Tip-off at Pace University in Pleasantville, NY, is slated for 9:00pm.
