The New York University men's tennis team completed its final day of play at the ITA Northeast Regionals hosted by Skidmore College on Sunday, October 1, in Saratoga Springs, NY.
In singles play, top-seeded
Umberto Setter, the lone Violet to make it to the second day of the tournament, defeated Skidmore's Jack McClaren 6-4, 6-4 in the Round of 16, before falling to Skidmore's JT Wynne 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
"Umberto found a way to win his first match while not playing his best, but in the second match he wasn't as fortunate," said NYU Head Coach
Horace Choy. "At this stage in the tournament, it's not always the best player who wins, but who is playing best."
In doubles play, Setter and
Rahul Das, the last remaining Violet pair in the doubles bracket, lost to Skidmore's Wynne and Steven Koulouris, the top-seeded team in the field.
"The other team was more aggressive overall, specially early," added Choy. "They got an early break and that was the difference."
This concludes NYU's fall season.
"The fall showed our guys what they need to work on in the offseason," continued Choy. "They will use the break to get better."
The Violets return to the court for their spring opener against Haverford College on Saturday, February 24, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, NY.
