The New York University men's basketball team fell 84-75 to host Emory University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Sunday, January 29, at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA.
NYU (6-11, 1-6 UAA) trailed by 11 with 2:52 remaining in the first half, but closed the stanza on an 8-0 run to cut into the Emory (14-4, 5-2 UAA) lead.
The Violets and Eagles went back-and-forth early in the second half before NYU took its first lead of the half on a jumper from
Ted Georgiadis with 7:59 to play. After Emory retook the lead with a basket of its own,
Ross Udine's layup with 6:19 to play put the visitors back in front, 66-65.
This NYU lead did not last long, however, as Emory's Christopher Avant put the hosts back in front six seconds later and the Eagles never trailed again. A pair of three-pointers from Jim Gordon and Adam Gigax extended the Emory lead to seven with just under three minutes to play.
"I thought we bounced back real well after a tough loss Friday night," said Assistant Coach
Michael McSloy. "We played with great energy and enthusiasm for 40 minutes today. We lost to a well-coached, talented team."
Gigax scored a game-high 27 points to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds. Emory point guard Whit Rapp dished out 16 assists in the win and turned the ball over just twice.
Ross Udine led NYU with 23 points and five assists, while turning the ball over just once.
