The New York University men's basketball team suffered a 93-79 loss to the University of Chicago on Sunday, January 22, in Chicago, IL.
NYU's overall record now stands at 6-9 and the Violets are 1-4 in University Athletic Association (UAA) action. The Maroons improved to 10-6 on the season and 2-4 in Association play.
Chicago led 43-39 at halftime and opened up the second half on a 9-2 run to go ahead by 11 points. NYU cut the lead to four, 56-52, after a jumper from
Ted Georgiadis, but the Violets did not get any closer.
The hosts answered Georgiadis' bucket, scoring the next 10 points and then led by double-digits the rest of the way. The Maroons led by as many as 25 before a late NYU run made the final margin 14.
"You have to give credit to Chicago," said Assistant Coach
Michael McSloy. "They started getting to the glass more in the second half and got a lot of second-chance points."
Four different Maroons scored at least 15 points with Waller Parez leading the way with a game-high 24 points.
NOTABLES:
-
Ross Udine led NYU with 14 points and a team-high five assists.
"Ross played great today," added McSloy. "He did a good job of getting everyone involved."
-
Jimmy Martinelli fell just short of a double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing a game-high nine rebounds.
- Georgiadis scored 12 points, all of which came after halftime.
"Ted provided a spark for us in the second half," explained McSloy. "He played well despite battling foul trouble throughout the game."
-
Jack Heller drained a game-high three three-pointers.
The Violets will continue their four-game road trip on Friday, January 27, against the University of Rochester. Tip-off against the Yellowjackets is slated for 8:00pm.
