The New York University men's basketball team suffered a 96-71 setback at the hands of University Athletic Association (UAA) foe University of Rochester on Friday, January 27, at the Louis Alexander Palestra in Rochester, NY.
Ninth-ranked (
d3hoops.com) Rochester scored the first eight points of the contest and led until the final buzzer. The Yellowjackets (16-1, 5-1 UAA) built their lead to as many as 19 late in the opening half, but NYU (6-10, 1-5 UAA) was able to close the gap to 42-30 at halftime. Freshmen
Jack Heller (10 points) and
Jimmy Martinelli (eight points) combined to score more than half of the Violets' first-half points.
The hosts opened the second half on a 10-2 run to extend their lead to 20 at 52-32. From there they coasted, leading by as many as 30 en route to the 96-71 victory.
Mack Montauge scored 20 for Rochester to lead all players. Heller was NYU's leading scorer, finishing with a career-high 17 points
Highlights:
- NYU shot 11-of-26 (42.3) from three-point range.

Joshua Bunch played a career-high 27 minutes and also notched a career high in points (11).

Joe Timmes scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
- Doug Gertner earned his first-career start for NYU.
The Violets return to the court on Sunday, January 29, when they travel to Atlanta, GA, to take on Emory University. Tip-off against the Eagles is set for 12:00pm.
