The New York University baseball team (14-21) fell to the College of Mount St. Vincent (7-21) on Wednesday, April 27, at MCU Park in Brooklyn, NY.
The Violets (14-21) were defeated by the Dolphins (7-21) by a score of 7-6.
Starting on the mound for the Violets was
Jacob Bader, who only lasted one inning. He gave up four earned runs before being relieved by
Matthew Wells, who went four innings and only allowed one earned run on three hits.
NYU's offense got going in the bottom of the first by scoring two runs.
Jack Walter had a leadoff single and eventually scored on a balk. The second run came in on a groundout by
Jake Smith.
The Dolphins tacked on single runs in the second and third innings, while NYU managed to add a run of its own on a RBI single by
Christian Bloom to bring the score to 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth.
Mount St. Vincent scored its final run on a Violet error in the top of the sixth.
NYU's
CJ Picerni sparked an offensive rally in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff double to left center. Following a wild pitch and an RBI single from
Adrian Spitz, the Violets narrowed the deficit to 7-6.
However, rallies in the final two innings fell short.
"Today was a very backwards day," said Head Coach
Doug Kimbler "We were unable to put anything together. When we scored runs, our pitchers gave them up. When our pitchers held it, we we could not score the runs we needed."
NOTABLES:
- Both
Jack Kurtenbach and
Matthew Millus pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
- Spitz recorded a team-high two RBIs.
- Picerni went 3-5, scoring one run.
The Violets return to action Friday, April 29, for a doubleheader at home against the City College of New York. The first game is scheduled for 4:00 pm and
live stats will be available.
