The New York University men's tennis team fell to Case Western Reserve University at the 2016 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Friday, April 22, at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, FL.
The Violets (4-10), seeded #8 in the tournament, fell to the Spartans (19-7), seeded #4 and ranked #6 nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, by a score of 7-2.
"We played Case Western tough," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "We played better than we did yesterday."
Umberto Setter and
Matt DeMichiel picked up the Violets' two wins on Friday. Setter captured a 7-5, 6-1 victory at #3 singles, while DeMichiel cruised to a 6-3, 6-4 decision at the #5 position.
"Matt continues to play well, and we got another win from Umberto," continued Choy. "Case won the big points when they had to. They aren't sixth in the country by accident."
The Violets will conclude their UAA Championship campaign on Saturday morning when they will take on the #7-seeded University of Rochester in the seventh-place match.
