Match Results

The New York University men's tennis team opened play at the 2016 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Thursday, April 21, at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, FL.

The Violets (4-9), seeded #8, fell to top-seeded Emory University (18-3), ranked #1 nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITS), by a score of 8-1.

NYU's lone victory came at #5 singles, as junior Matt DeMichiel defeated Josh Goodman 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).

"Matt has been our most consistent player all year long," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "It was a nice win and I'm really happy for him."

NYU's #1 doubles team of senior captain Sidd Thangirala and junior Sammy Aronson put up a strong fight against the Eagles' top team before falling 8-5.

"I thought our whole team competed well," Choy added. "If we want to compete at this level, we're going to have to continue to put out our very best in every match."

On Friday, the UAA Championship continues as the Violets face #4 seed Case Western Reserve University, currently ranked #6 nationally by the ITA. That match-up is set to begin at 2:00 pm.
