The New York University men's tennis team defeated Baruch College 9-0 on Tuesday, April 19, in a road match played at Queens College in Flushing, NY.
The Violets (4-8) won all three doubles matches against the Bearcats (10-3), as well as all six singles contests.
"It was a thoroughly dominating performance by our players," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "Our guys really put forth a great effort and it showed from top to bottom."
All six singles matches were won in straight straight sets, except for #1 singles where
Sidd Thangirala posted a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 victory.
NYU posted two "double bagels", as
Samuel Khoshbin at #4 singles and
Yanik Parsch at #6, defeated their opponents 6-0, 6-0.
"This is just what we needed heading into the UAA (University Athletic Association) Championship this weekend," Choy explained. "We will go in with some momentum and hope to play at a high level against some very stiff competition."
The Violets begin play in the UAA Championship on Thursday, April 21, when they face Emory University, currently ranked #1 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). That match is set to begin at 9:00 am in Altamonte Springs, FL.
"The UAA is unquestionably the strongest Division III tennis conference in the country," Choy added. "It boasts five of the top eight teams in the nation."
In addition to Emory, the University of Chicago (#5), Case Western Reserve University (#6), Washington University in St. Louis (#7), and Carnegie Mellon University (#8) are also among the nation's leaders.
"We look forward to the competition and the challenge it presents," Choy concluded.
