The New York University men's basketball team (3-1) was defeated by Yeshiva University 83-68 on Sunday, November 27, at the Max Stern Athletic Center in Manhattan.
The Maccabees (2-3) rushed to a 10-2 start, forcing NYU to call a quick timeout less than three minutes into the game. The Violets were unable to respond effectively as Yeshiva's lead increased to 14 points by the time the opening half ended.
The second half scripted a similar story. Yeshiva did not not relinquish its lead the entirety of the game.
Jordan Harris drove through the lane to cut the lead to 11 at the 15:23 mark, but that was the closest NYU would come to denting the host's lead. Tal Gweta's layup with 12:42 remaining brought the Maccabees' lead to 19, their largest of the game.
Yeshiva's Judah Cohen poured in a game-high 17 points, registering a game-high five threes, four of which came in the second half. His triple with four minutes left in the game pushed the team's lead back up to 19.
"This is always a tough place to play," said Assistant Coach
Taylor Roth said. "They shot it really well today. It was a make-miss game. You are going to have nights like that where teams are pouring it in. We ran into a bit of a buzzsaw."
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
-
Ted Georgiadis dropped in 16 points and collected six boards in 29 minutes of action for NYU.
- Fellow rookie
Cameron Moore recorded 13 points to go along with his team-leading five assists.
"We did some good things in spots," said Roth. "We played a little better defensively and moved the ball better in the second half. I am looking forward to watching how we bounce back from this."
- The Maccabees shot 43.5% from behind the arc (10-23) compared to the Violets' 25% (5-20). Yeshiva also tallied 24 assists to NYU's 16.
The Violets will be back on the court next Sunday, December 4, when they take on the Hunter College Hawks in NYU's first home game of the season. Tip-off is set for 3:00 pm.
