The New York University men's swimming & diving team defeated SUNY Cortland by a score of 196-95 in its season opener on Saturday, October 8, at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.

Sophomore diver Connor Brisson took first place in the three-meter competition (357.58), setting a new NYU record. He broke the mark set by Austen Blease (334.50) during the 2011-12 season.

"I couldn't be more pleased with how things went today," said Diving Coach Todd Kolean. "Cortland had some outstanding divers. This was a great first meet for us and for me as the new head coach."

The Violets were also dominant in the pool, sweeping all 16 swimming events. Junior Tim Kou won the 100-yard freestyle (46.91) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.68).

"Today was really a culmination of all of our hard work in practice," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "We didn't swim our best times, but that's not really what you're looking for at this point in the season. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do next week against West Chester."

- Sophomore Matt Lyn triumphed in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:11.20) and placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:05.21).

- Freshman Evan Munarotto won the 500-yard freestyle (4:50.21) and took second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.65).

The Violets return to action on Saturday, October 15, when they host West Chester University beginning at 11:30 am.
