The New York University softball team split a doubleheader at New Jersey City University on Monday afternoon, April 27, in Jersey City, NJ. After falling 8-5 in game one, the Violets rebounded to win the second game 8-3.
In game one, NJCU (3-31) scored the first three runs of the contest in the bottom of the first inning before NYU (9-23) answered with four in the second. The four-run inning was highlighted by a two-RBI double from
Sabrina Casseus.
The Gothic Knights then scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the third to take a 5-4 lead. The Violets tied the game at 5-5 before NJCU ultimately pulled ahead for good en route to the 8-5 victory.
Colby Tarsitano got NYU on the board first in the nightcap, launching a fourth-inning home run to left field to put the Violets ahead. A
Rachel Fulton RBI single in the frame gave the squad a 2-0 lead.
After the Gothic Knights got a run back in the home half of the fourth inning, NYU added two in the sixth and four in the seventh to take an 8-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh. Taristano added the first RBI of the seventh inning to increase the Violets' lead.
NJCU tallied two in the bottom of the seventh, but NYU pitcher
Sage Scheiwiller was able to end the rally to pick up her fifth win of the season. The rookie hurler struck out six and allowed just one earned run in the victory.
Game One Notables:- Tarsitano, Scheiwiller and
Lauren Parnaby each had two hits for NYU.
- Eight different Violets picked up at least one hit.

Jacqueline Tremblay went the distance in the circle for the Violets. She struck out three NJCU hitters.
Game Two Notables:-
Kahala Bonsignore was 3-for-4 and scored three runs.
- Tarsitano, Fulton and
Molly Webber each had two hits in the victory.
- Tarsitano had two RBIs and scored twice.
- In her only at-bat of the contest,
Becky Laitman hit an RBI single to score Bonsignore.
The Violets will return to action on Wednesday, April 29, when they travel to Madison, NJ,for a doubleheader at FDU-Florham. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
