The New York University softball team split a doubleheader on the road at FDU-Florham on Wednesday, April 29, in Madison, NJ.
NYU (10-24) dropped game one 4-1 before coming back and taking game two 7-5 over the Devils (11-23) to split the pair of contests.
Sage Scheiwiller started the first game and went the distance. She scattered seven hits, struck out five batters and allowed four earned runs in the loss.
Jacqueline Tremblay was in the circle for the Violets in game two. The sophomore hurler also tossed a complete game, allowing four earned runs and nine hits, while striking out one for her fifith victory of the season.
"They both did a phenomenal job today," said NYU Head Coach
Now-Allah James. "The pitching put us in a position to win both games. We just didn't come up with the timely hits when we needed them in game one."
Scheiwiller,
Kahala Bonsignore,
Molly Webber, and
Val Schwein each collected a hit in game one. Webber also plated Bonsignore with an RBI single in the top of the sixth.
Game two saw the Violet bats awaken. Trailing 1-0 after one, NYU scored one run in the top half of both the second and third innings to jump out to a lead it would not surrender.
The Violets' big innings came in the three-run fifth and the two-run sixth. Bonsignore did all the damage in the fifth by launching her second home run of the season -- a three-run shot. Schweiller took care of the offense in the following inning, plating two on a single.
NOTABLES:- Bonsignore finished the day 3-for-7 with three RBIs and two runs.
"Kahala has been consistent all season defensively and offensively," continued James. "She is a leader on and off the field and has come up and produced in key situations."
- Scheiwiller was 3-for-7 with two RBIs and a run scored.
-
Rachel Fulton was 2-for-4 with two runs scored in game two.
The Violets will return to the field for their regular-season finale when they host Yeshiva Unviersity at the Bahoshy Softball Complex on the campus of Fordham University in the Bronx. NYU and the Macabees are scheduled for a 12:00 pm doubleheader on Friday, May 1.
