Men's Basketball Finishes Season at Stevens

Violets Fall in ECAC Quarterfinals

The New York University men's basketball closed out its 2013-14 season on Wednesday night, March 5, falling to the Stevens Institute of Technology 86-67 in the Division III Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro quarterfinals in Hoboken, NJ.

The fifth-seeded Violets (16-10) controlled the game for the majority of the first half before entering the lockerroom trailing the fourth-seeded Ducks (18-9) by four, 32-28. Both squads lit up the scoreboard in the second half, each shooting just over 54 percent from the field. Unfortunately, Stevens sank two more three-point shots and went 12-of-13 from the foul line in the second to come away with the victory.

NYU finishes the season at 16-10 overall, as well as a 6-8 record in University Athletic Association (UAA) play.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Senior co-captains Ryan Tana and Jed Borovik finished their collegiate careers on Wednesday night, each walking off the court to ovations from the crowd. Tana finished with 14 points, four assists, four rebounds, and was 5-of-6 from the foul line. Borovik chipped in two points in 10 minutes.

- Tana completes his career with the Violets as the program's all-time leader in career three-point shooting percentage (43.4 percent), supplanting former teammate Kyle Stockmal.

- Sophomore center Costis Gontikas led all scorers with 20 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor. He also added six rebounds and three blocks.

- Sophomore forward Evan Kupferberg ended with 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

- Junior guard Iyoha Agho chipped in nine points, as well.
