The New York University men's tennis came away with a huge victory on Saturday, March 1, defeating #25 Skidmore College 5-4 on the road in Saratoga Springs, NY. The match lasted over five hours.
The Violets (2-0) defeated the highly-ranked Thoroughbreds (1-1) in an extremely tight match for their second straight victory to start the spring season.
Senior captain
Steven Wu (#5 in the Northeast, #24 Nationally) led NYU in first singles and cruised to a straight set (6-2, 6-2) victory over Skidmore's Oliver Loutsenko, who is ranked #1 in the Northeast and #3 Nationally.
Trailing 2-1 heading into singles' play, the Violets rattled off four straight victories to take a secure 5-2 lead.
"I'm very proud of the guys and I thought they played a great match," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "We put our top four guys out there and I was confident in them knowing that they are as tough as anyone else."
The Violets will be back in action when they host Brandeis University on Saturday, March 15, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, NY. First-serve is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
