Chicago 68 NYU 63
The New York University men's basketball team fell to the University of Chicago 68-63 on Friday night, February 14, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
The Violets (15-6, 5-5 University Athletic Association) controlled most of the game and held as large as a 13-point lead at the beginning of the second half. NYU held a two-point lead over Chicago (13-8, 6-4) with 2:30 remaining, but the Maroons were able to maintain their momentum and take the lead with 2:14 left to play and never let up.
NYU did dominate under the basket once again, outscoring Chicago 44-32 in the paint and outrebounding the Maroons 37-34. The Violets were particularly tough on the offensive glass, holding the 13-8 advantage over Chicago.
NYU now falls into a tie for fourth place in the UAA, while Chicago is knotted for second.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Sophomore forward
Evan Kupferberg led all players in points (19), rebounds (13) and steals (3) for his ninth double-double of the season.
- Senior co-captain
Ryan Tana scored 11 points along with three rebounds and three assists.
- Sophomore point guard
Max Ralby chipped in eight points, while also registering five boards, four assists and a steal.
- Junior guard
Iyoha Agho contributed eight points, two rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
- Freshman forward
Alec Papesch finished with six points, eight rebounds and a block.
NYU will be back in action for Senior Day on Sunday, February 16, against #4 Washington University-St. Louis. Tip-off is scheduled for 11:00 am at Coles.
