Chicago 58 NYU 50
The New York University men's basketball team suffered it's first University Athletic Association (UAA) loss of the season on Friday night, January 17, at the Ratner Center in Chicago.
The Violets (11-2, 1-1 UAA) fell to the University of Chicago (8-5, 1-1 UAA) on the road, 58-50, halting their five-game winning streak.
NYU trailed 24-18 after a low-scoring first half. The second half was much more potent offensively, as the Maroons held the slight edge, 34-32.
The Violets were able to come back after being down by 13 early in the second half to eventually take a three-point lead with 10:55 remaining in the contest. Unfortunately, NYU was unable to sustain its lead for the remainder of the game and fell to Chicago to fall to .500 in early UAA competition.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Junior guard
Iyoha Agho led all scorers on both squads with a career-high 16 points. He was 6-of-12 from the field.
- Sophomore forward
Evan Kupferberg was able to pull down a game-high 10 rebounds.
- Senior co-captain guard
Ryan Tana chipped in nine points, four rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
- Freshman forward
Alec Papesch put up six points whille coming down with six boards.
The Violets will be back on the court on Sunday, January 19, when they travel to St. Louis to face #7 Washington University-St. Louis. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 pm central time.
