Violet Star Will Represent Team USA in Israel

New York University senior Carl Yaffe recently earned another accolade and committed to playing in a prestigious international tournament.

Yaffe was named a Jewish Sports Review First Team All-American (NCAA Division II, III and NAIA), receiving another award to cap an outstanding senior campaign and career. In addition, the 6-8 forward committed to playing for Team USA in the Maccabiah Games, which will take place in Israel from July 17-30.

Yaffe was a force all season long for the Violets in 2012-13, leading the team in scoring (14.9 ppg), rebounding (7.6 rpg), assists (3.5 apg), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.54), blocked shots (0.8 bpg), and minutes (35.3 mpg). He racked up numerous other accolades, including being named First Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA), National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Second Team All-East District, Second Team All-Metropolitan, and UAA Winter Sport All-Academic.

The fifth-leading scorer in NYU history with 1,365 career points, Yaffe was invited to play for Team USA in the 19th Maccabiah Games this summer. The Open Men's Basketball squad consists of many of the top Jewish players in the nation, including Jake Cohen (Davidson College), Stu Douglass (University of Michigan) and Zack Rosen (University of Pennsylvania). Two other Jewish Sports Review Division II/III/NAIA First Team All-Americans, teammates Will Tashman and Mitchell Kates of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will also join Yaffe on Team USA.
