Men's Tennis Team Earns Win at UAA Championship

NYU Defeats Brandeis 6-3

Steven Wu was one of two Violets to go 2-0 in NYU's victory over Brandeis.
The New York University men's tennis team earned its first win at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, defeating Brandeis University 6-3 on Saturday, April 27, in Altamonte Springs, FL.

NYU (8-5), the #7 seed in the eight-team tournament, lost a 7-2 decision in its opening match against Case Western Reserve University on Friday. Brandeis (7-12), the #6 seed, also dropped its opener, losing 9-0 to Washington University.

The Violets will now advance in the consolation bracket to take on the University of Chicago in the fifth-place match on Sunday at 9:00 am.

NYU got off to a quick start over the Judges by taking the first two doubles matches. The Violets followed that up by winning four of the six singles matches.

Steven Wu and CJ Leong each went 2-0 by earning singles victories and combining for a win in the #2 doubles match.

Harveer Bhalla and Aaron Meltzer earned a win at #1 doubles. NYU also got victories in singles from Sidd Thangirala and James Dean.

"This was a great match from start to finish," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "The time of the match surpassed five hours, which is really a testament to how hard both teams fought. We were able to get some key wins early and then hang on in the end."
