The New York University women's basketball team cruised to a 85-38 victory on the road vs. St. Joseph's College (LI) in Patchogue, NY, on Saturday, December 7. With the win, the Violets remain undefeated, boasting a 7-0 record at the end of the first semester. The Golden Eagles drop to 0-6 with the loss.
NYU never trailed in the game, and while St. Joseph's managed to hold the lead to single digits for much of the first half, the Violets pulled away in the final nine minutes of the period, heading to the locker room with a lead of 42-18. NYU continued to extend the lead in the second half. The gap swelled to as much as 51 points before settling at the final margin.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- NYU was propelled in the first half by the performances of
Megan Dawe, who poured in 15 points for the period, and
Riley Wurtz, who scored 10. Dawe would finish the contest with 19 points to go with seven boards, while Wurtz would finish up with 12 points, eight boards and seven assists.
- All 14 NYU players logged minutes, with 13 of those notching points.
Simone Jacques tallied eight points off the bench on 2-3 shooting from behind the arc.
Emily Rowe had an efficient game off the bench as well, scoring seven points inas many minutes.
- The Violets also benefitted from a superb defensive effort, holding the Golden Eagles to just .232 shooting from the field. NYU forced 13 turnovers as well, five of which came courtesy of steals by
Melissa Peng.
- Danielle Hamlin led St. Joseph's with 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Violets will be idle until December 30, when they are scheduled to take on Massachussets College of Liberal Arts in a home game at Coles Sports Center. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM.
