Women's Basketball Improves to 6-0 with Win Over Brooklyn

Violets Continue Hot Start

Dawe scored 12 points with eight rebounds to lead NYU.

The New York University women's basketball team defeated Brooklyn College 63-43 on Tuesday night, December 3, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

NYU has gotten off to a 6-0 start in 2013-14, its best since beginning 9-0 and advancing to the Sweet 16 of the Division III NCAA Tournament in the 2008-09 season.

Leading the Violets once again was sophomore co-captain Megan Dawe. The 6'0" forward scored a game-high 12 points in addition to pulling down eight rebounds. She has now scored in double figures in two straight contests and in five of six overall this season. Dawe leads the team with 13.2 points per game.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- The Violets saw contributions from many other players, with six scoring at least seven points.

- NYU outrebounded the Bulldogs 45-28, including 17-4 on the offensive boards.

- Sophomore guard Riley Wurtz had a great all-around game, scoring 10 points with nine rebounds and six assists. She has now scored in double figures twice this season.

- Freshman forward Lindsey Oldshue continued her stellar rookie season with 10 points and seven rebounds on the night. She is now leads the team with 8.4 rebounds per game and is third with 10.6 points per game.

- Rookie guards Amy Harioka (nine points on 3-5 from three-point range and three steals) and Kaitlyn Read (seven points, seven rebounds, and three steals) also contributed to the victory.

- In her second game of the season, senior forward Alexis Doherty scored eight points in 21 minutes.

"We talked during pregame that strategy plus execution will equal success for us," said Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory. "We did a great job on the defensive boards and that's somewhere we've really improved from last year's team to this year's team. It was a great team effort, and as I looked at our stat sheet I saw contributions from a lot of players."

The Violets will be back on the court when they travel to Patchogue, NY, on Saturday, December 7, to face St. Joseph's College-Long Island. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
