Although it has been roughly two months since
Andy Stein played his final game in a New York University uniform, he collected two more accolades for his proverbial trophy case. The soon-to-be graduate was named a
Jewish Sports Review First Team All-American for the second consecutive year in recognition for his outstanding senior season. He was also selected Second Team All-Division III by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY).
Stein culminated his decorated NYU career by leading the team in scoring with 16.0 points per game on 56.4% shooting. He added 6.4 rebounds per contest as he led the Violets to their best season in more than a decade, as the squad went 21-6 overall and 9-5 in the University Athletic Association (UAA).
Led by Stein, NYU earned its first NCAA Tournament berth in 14 years. The squad took advantage of the NCAA trip, winning its first-round game 84-65 at home against Misericordia University.
Over the course of his impressive career, Stein has been able to carve out his own place in NYU basketball history. He ranks 10th all-time in points with 1,251. He also leaves the program ranked third in school history in career field-goal percentage (56.9%) and seventh in career field goals made (498).
Fellow big man
Carl Yaffe was also recognized by the
Jewish Sports Review, earning Honorable Mention All-America accolades. Yaffe's 2011-12 campaign was comparably impressive, as he finished third on the team in scoring with 14.4 points per game and was the squad's leading rebounder and shot blocker with 6.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.
The 6-8 rising junior out of Bethesda, MD, racked up three double-doubles and notched a career-high 36 points in UAA play against Case Western Reserve University on February 5.
The dynamic duo of Stein and Yaffe accounted for an astonishing 40.4% of the Violets' points in 2011-12.
