Men's Tennis Drops Encounter at Vassar

Violets Fall To 5-5

Steven Wu scored a 6-4, 6-4 win at #1.
The New York University men's tennis team was defeated 7-2 by Vassar College on Friday, April 13, in Poughkeepsie, NY.
 
With the loss, the Violets fall to 5-5 for the season.
 
The encounter was highlighted by a victory for NYU at #1 and #2 singles, with Steven Wu winning 6-4, 6-4, and CJ Leong taking his match 6-1, 7-6(2).
 
In doubles action, William Smithline teamed with Ting Yee Lai in an 8-1 loss in the first slot. At #2 doubles, the team of Leong and Bowen Xu lost 8-4, while at #3 Steven Wu and Tim Wu (no relation) lost 8-3.
 
Despite winning the first two singles matches, NYU could not win another. Tim Wu fell at #3 6-3, 6-0, Lai and Smithline fell at #4 and #5, both in three sets, while Xu was dominated 6-1, 6-1 at #6.
 
“I thought Steve and CJ played two great matches,” said NYU head coach Horace Choy. “We had a very high level of play in singles, but we came up just short.”
 
NYU will be looking to rebound at home against Wilkes College on Sunday, April 15.
