Women's Fencing Defeats Vassar

Violets Fall to Scared Heart and Columbia at Quad Meet

Becca Baird-Remba went 7-2 at the competition.
The New York University women's fencing team traveled uptown in Manhattan to face three other teams at Columbia University on Wednesday, February 8.

In the first match, the Violets defeated Vassar College 18-9. NYU was then edged by Sacred Heart University 14-13 before falling to host Columbia 25-2.

The Violets overall team record is now 12-14.

Members of NYU's foil team led the Violets for the night. Becca Baird-Remba and Audra Fox both ended the day with an outstanding 6-2 records.

The sabre team also had a winning night. Lisa Verzino went 6-2, while Jackie Leval and Ericka Persson posted 5-2 and 5-3 records, respectively.

With the dual-meet season wrapped up, the Violets now look forward to the championship season. NYU fencers will return to the strip when the Violets host the U.S. Collegiate Fencing Squad Championships at the Coles Sports Center on Sunday, Feb. 26.
