Women's Basketball Edged at Manhattanville

Violets Drop 64-59 Decision

The New York University women's basketball dropped a 64-59 decision to Manhattanville College on Wednesday, December 5, in Purchase, NY.

The Violets (4-3) led by as many as 14 points in the first half, but could not hold off the charging Valiants (4-3). The loss was the second straight for NYU, which was playing its fourth straight away game.

Highlights

- Nicole Lem's jump shot with 10:51 remaining in the first half gave NYU its biggest lead of the evening, 19-5.

- NYU led by 10 at halftime, 33-23, but a 14-2 Manhattanville run to start the period gave the Valiants their first lead of the game.

- The Violets took their final lead, 41-39, on Cassidy Jourdan's three-pointer with 11:55 left to play.

- Maya Wasowicz's three-point play lifted NYU into a 53-53 tie with 4:05 left, but Manhattanville scored the next six points en route to a game-ending 11-6 run.     

- Lem finished with a team-high 14 points for NYU while adding eight rebounds. Riley Wurtz recorded another double-double for the Violets, totaling 13 points and 11 rebounds while also adding a game-high eight assists.

- Megan Dawe was also a double-digit scorer (12 points) for NYU.

"Our players competed, but we need to put two halves together," said Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory. "When we do that, we will be a very good team. I know our players have it in them."

The Violets return to action on Saturday, December 8, to face the College of Staten Island in their final non-conference road game of the season. Tip-off is set for 3:00 pm.
