Women's Fencing Wins Home Match Against Sacred Heart

Squad Finishes Competition with 1-2 Record

Captain Amanda Rysling tallied an 8-1 record on Wednesday.

The New York University women's fencing team ended competition with a win in three attempts against stellar opponents on Wednesday, February 9, in home matches at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

Vassar College knocked off NYU in round one by a score of 17-10, though the Violets' foil team grabbed six of nine bouts.

The Violets pounced on their next foe, Sacred Heart University, winning 17-10.  In sabre, NYU snared eight of nine bouts and dominated in foil as well, 7-2.

Against sixth-ranked Columbia University, NYU's final opponent, the Violets lost again, their second defeat by a tally of 17-10.

As usual, several Violet fencers fared well.  In sabre, Lisa Verzino captured five of six bouts, while Jackie Leval finished 7-2.

Competing with the foil squad, captain Amanda Rysling won eight of nine bouts, while Becca Baird-Remba tallied five victories in nine attempts.

The Violets return to action on Feb. 27 at the inaugural National Squad Championships, also at the Coles Sports Center.
