New York University's men's swimming & diving team swam well on Saturday against The College of New Jersey, but in the end the Violets were edged 151.5-142.5 at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.

NYU (2-4) produced wins across the board, starting with Danny Isaacson (1:59.25) in the 200-yard butterfly. Captain James Bedell won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.27, which trumped his time of 53.88 last week. Cole Talbott also had a strong follow-up to last week's meet, winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:49.65.

NYU also saw positive performances in the 100-yard freestyle, where Jerry Crowley (48.31),  Bedell (48.57), and Ed Luo (48.67) finished first, second, and third, respectively. The Violets added another one-two finish from captain Bryson Naylor (2:14.37) and Matt Kendall (2:15.23) in the 200-yard backstroke.

"Overall, we had some very good swims," said head coach Bob Sorensen. "The meet went down to the last relay. It was definitely an exciting meet to be part of."

In addition to the swimmers' performances, another highlight of the meet came from diver Austen Blease. He not only won both the one- and three-meter dives with NCAA qualifying scores of 330.45 and 330.08, respectively, but also broke two NYU pool records in the process.

"This may be a turning point in Austen's career," said diving coach Scott Donie. "He put it all together. He  went against a diver who placed in the top eight at NCAA's last year and still won on both boards. It was a historic day for Austen, and an epic day for NYU diving."

The Violets return to competition at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Invitational in Cambridge, MA, on Friday and Saturday, December 2-3.
