The New York University women's golf team capped off the 2009-10 season by putting together two solid rounds this weekend at the Williams College Invitational.

In their final tournament of the year, the Violets followed a first-round score of 331 with a day-two tally of 336. The combined score of 657 on the par-71, 5,827-yard Taconic Golf Club course was good enough to put the Violets in fifth place overall in a competitive field.

“I'm very proud of the team for shooting two good scores for two days. But, we still could have played better on a few holes,” said NYU assistant coach Matt Huck. “They made a statement for teams for next year that we are here to stay.”

Freshman Sarah Utz led the way for the Violets by firing a 157 total (79, 78), which put her in a tie for 10th place. It is the second time this year Utz had posted the low score for NYU.

Also playring well for the Violets, as she has for most of the season, was junior Theresa Apoznanski. Her two-day total of 159 (79, 80) was good enough to tie for 13th place overall.

Rounding out the scoring for NYU were freshmen Jiye Kim (171) and sophomore Meaghan Kenny (183).

“We started really strong this season, though some parts of the spring were difficult for us,” Huck said. “But, it was a great growing experience for us.”
