The New York University women's golf team was on the mark for its second lowest single-round total in school history Saturday at the Williams College Invitational in Williamstown, MA.
The Violets' team total of 331 was just four strokes off its best single-round outing of 327, set at the St. Lawrence Invitational to kick off the fall season. With the Violets in fifth place after the first day, NYU is in good position to put themselves in contention for a strong showing to end the season on Sunday.
“I'm very proud of the team overall, but I still think they can come back tomorrow and possibly do a little bit better,” said NYU assistant coach Matt Huck. “The one thing this spring we emphasized was to come out and have a good first day. Now we are in position to give ourselves a good chance to make a move tomorrow.”
Individually, junior Theresa Apoznanski and freshman Sarah Utz both shot eight-over par 79 (t-11th) in the first round to lead the way for the Violets.
Also contributing to the scoring were freshmen Jiye Kim (85) and Charlotte Abrams (88), who broke 90 on the scorecard for the first time in her career.
Amherst College leads the invite with a 308, while host Williams is in second with a 314.
