Balanced Effort Boosts Men's Tennis to 9-0 Victory at Baruch

Violets Turn Attention to UAA Championship

Sacher helped lead the Violets with singles and doubles wins on Tuesday.

Facing some of the best competition is finally paying dividends for the New York University men's tennis team, although it's coming a little bit later into the season.

In their regular-season finale. the Violets (4-8) netted a 9-0 victory over Baruch College at the U.S. Tennis Center in Flushing, NY, on Tuesday, April 20. The win provides NYU with momentum heading into Friday's University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship.

"It's been an up-and-down season for us, but it's good to end on a positive note," said NYU head coach Horace Choy. "It's just a great feeling to get a win under our belt heading into UAA's."

This season, the Violets have played some of the top teams in the country, including Middlebury College (#15), Vassar College (#22), and The College of New Jersey (#23), all ranked within the top-25 in the nation in the latest Division III National Rankings.

"Hopefully, facing these types of teams has helped prepare us to face the top-tier teams of the UAA," Choy said.

NYU put experience to use on Tuesday against Baruch, storming out to a 3-0 lead after the doubles matches. Juniors Matt Gross and Alex Stoler posted an 8-3 victory at #1 doubles. Senior #P.J. Marranca and junior Jason Sacher won 8-3 at 2 doubles, while senior captain #Eugene Tsarevskiy and junior Phillip Rosenstein# cruised 8-1 in #3 doubles play.

In singles matches, Sacher won 6-3, 6-0 at #1 while junior Alex Zara triumphed at #2 (6-2, 6-1).

After teaming in doubles, Stoler (6-3, 6-0) and Gross (6-1, 6-1) netted match victories at #3 and #6 singles, respectively. Tsarevskiy added a 6-3, 6-0 win at #4, while Marranca cruised 6-1, 6-2 in #5 singles play.

Seeding for the UAA Championship will be announced later this week. Choy believes that all UAA teams have a chance to win on Friday.

"We know what to expect because we have played a couple of the UAA teams already," Choy explained. "The UAA is strong from top to bottom, so everyone has a shot. I would even argue that the conference is the deepest in the nation."
