McDaniel College Invitational Results
The New York University women's golf team posted a third-place finish in its first outing of the spring season, the McDaniel College Spring Invitational, which was held on Saturday and Sunday, March 27-28.
In a field of seven teams, NYU finished in third place with a combined team score of 716 (355, 361). The Violets were just 10 strokes behind leaders Kutztown College and McDaniel College, who both shot 706.
Freshman Sarah Utz followed up a first-round 86 by shooting two strokes better on the second day at the par 72, 5,809-yard Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, PA. Her 170 total (26 over par) placed her in third overall in a field of 36 golfers.
“Sarah played really well all weekend,” said NYU head coach Todd Kolean. “She has this freshman mentality that nothing really bothers her even after a bad hole. All the teams had a hard time putting today, but Sarah was the exception to the rule.”
Junior Theresa Apoznanski had the second-best score for the Violets after shooting an 88 on Sunday. Her 174 two-day tally placed her in seventh overall. Rounding out the scoring for NYU were freshmen Jiye Kim (182, t-14th) and Olivia Segarra (188, 19th).
“We have things to improve on, but we still have four of our five as freshman," Kolean said. "So, we'll only get better and get into position to go for our fist win in school history.”
NYU began playing women's varsity golf in the spring of 2008.
The Violets will be back in action April 10-11 when they compete at the Vassar College Invitational in Poughkeepsie, NY.
