The New York University men's basketball team remained undefeated in 2010-11 with a 102-75 win over NYU-Poly at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan on Saturday, December 4.
The Violets (5-0) went over the 100-point plateau for the first time since a 102-70 victory over the College of Mount St. Vincent on January 14, 2004.
In addition to going over the century mark, NYU set a team record with 31 assists. The team's old mark of 30 was set against Polytechnic University (now NYU-Poly) on Jan. 28, 1977. Overall, the Violets shot 53.2% (42-79) for the game.
“I'm tremendously pleased,” said NYU head coach
Joe Nesci. “To get 31 assists and play unselfishly, that's what we've been preaching and striving for.”
NYU scored the first 10 points of the game and never trailed, leading by as many as 29 points in the first half. NYU took a 39-10 advantage on
D.J. Glavan's three-pointer with 6:55 to play in the first half.
The Fighting Blue Jays (0-6) managed to pull within 18, 55-37, on Eddie Johnson's layup in the final minute of the opening stanza. However, that was as close as they got the rest of the way.
NYU increased its lead to as many as 40 points in the second half.
Zeve Sanderson's first career points gave the Violets a 100-60 lead with 5:20 remaining in the game.
“We did a good job throughout the game of getting the ball off the boards and running,” Nesci said.
Andy Stein tied a career high with 21 points, while
Richie Polan (17 points, 10 rebounds) posted his fifth double-double in as many games.
Cory Stockmal was the main ball distributor for the Violets, racking up a career-high eight assists. Glavan and

NYU returns to action this Wednesday, Dec. 8, when the Violets host The College of New Jersey. Tip-off is set for 7:00pm at the Coles Sports Center.
