The men's tennis team opened its season at Vassar College Wednesday afternoon and was defeated by the Brewers, 9-0.
Rain forced the start of the match indoors to Walker Field House, where Vassar swept the doubles competition. As the rain subsided, the teams attempted to resume the match outdoors, and NYU's singles contingent got off to a solid start under cloudy skies. However, the rain soon picked up again, and the teams moved back indoors. The change in venue did not bode well for the Violets, as they were swept in singles.
“Early on, the singles matches were very tight, close first sets,” said NYU head coach Horace Choy. “Then we went back inside and they definitely did a better job adjusting to the faster surface inside. They made the adjustments and they deserved to win.”
The Violets will look to bounce back when they return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 in an exhibition event at the Princeton (JV) Doubles Invitational.
