Men's Volleyball Falls to East Stroudsburg in Final Match of 2009

Devin Zolnowski became the first NYU men's volleyball player to record 600 kills in a season.

In its final match of the 2009 campaign, the New York University men's volleyball team fell to East Stroudsburg University in straight sets on Friday, April 17, at the Taylor Field House in East Stroudsburg, PA.

The Violets (10-20, 4-4 EIVA Hay), currently ranked #7 in the Bison/AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll, put up a fight in the first two sets before succumbling in the third as they fell 3-0 to the Warriors (9-9, 2-5 EIVA Hay) (30-28, 42-40, 30-20).

Senior captain Devin Zolnowski, in the final match of his storied career, put down 18 kills to become the first Violet player to reach 600 kills in a season. Zolnowski also tallied a team-high 10 digs for his eighth double-double of the season.

For his career, Zolnowski recorded 1,529 kills, 623 digs, 85 service aces, and 272 total blocks, and sits in the top-three during the rally-scoring era for each of those categories. Upon leaving NYU, Zolnowski will hold the records for career kills during the rally-scoring era, career points during the rally-scoring era, sets and matches played during the rally-scoring era, kills in a season during the rally-scoring era and all-time, and points in a season.

The careers of two other seniors came to a close against the Warriors. Captain Ilan Goldstein put up 37 assists to become the first Violet to record more than 1,200 assists during the rally-scoring era. He also finishes his career holding the NYU record for career assists during the rally-scoring era with 3,326.

David Coll concluded his NYU career by tallying four kills, three blocks and seven digs. He finished his career with 232 kills, 151 digs and 98 total blocks, setting career highs in all three categories this season.

Junior Michael Ferragonio finished the season by recording his 18th double-digit kill performance, putting down 10. He concluded the year with a career-high 310 kills, second-most on the team.

For the Warriors, senior Jon Daley notched a match-high 22 kills while fellow senior R.J. Roth put up 12 digs.
